Tepeyac Consultingis a North Carolina-based consulting practice that catalyzes strategic equity efforts in collaboration with grassroots leaders, nonprofit organizations, and foundations. We believe in the power of connecting communities that are most often marginalized from decision-making tables with opportunities to amplify their voices and meaningfully lead social justice efforts. We offer the resources, tools, and frameworks to develop and deepen organizations’ and communities’ capacity with an explicit and intentional structural analysis of power that informs our work every step of the way.
For over 20 years, our team has worked in multiple capacities to advance equity through state and national policy advocacy, grassroots leadership development, community organizing, facilitation and training, and participatory research. Our engagements incorporate popular education, language justice, inclusive logistics, and accessible content as standards of practice. Our team has an established record of holding spaces and guiding processes that support meaningful dialogue across lines of difference, move groups from analysis to action, and engage in deep self-reflection.
We offer:
Racial Equity Capacity Building INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP: We design a racial equity workshop of anywhere from a half-day to 2-days that provides your stakeholders (e.g., staff, board, community members, etc.) with an introduction to language and frameworks for beginning work in racial equity. Our facilitation team will work with you and your staff to apply an analysis of structural racism to core issues we identify in collaboration with you, as well as develop early racial equity strategies to implement within your organization. You will leave with tools that can guide your strategic thinking and be applied to your work immediately following the session.
Equity Assessments + Adaptive Strategic Thinking LISTENING + LEARNING:Seek out the perspectives and feedback of your community through a series of one-one-one interviews (about 10-12). Participants’ individual responses are brought together to identify emerging patterns around a collective experience of racial equity within your organization. You will receive a summary report presented to you during a debrief conversation.
AMPLIFY/INNOVATE/INTERRUPT: Assess where your organization is in its racial equity practice – collectively brainstorm what could be amplified, interrupted, or innovated; and identify emerging strategic steps for your work together. A change team within your organization would work together on this adaptive assessment through a 3-hour meeting. Their work together would be documented and delivered back in a summary report and debrief conversation.
Strategic Equity Retreats HALF TO FULL DAY RETREATS:Provides the organization with an opportunity to build out a strategic plan with an explicit equity lens. This planning work allows your organization to move from racial equity theory to application by developing the structures and systems needed to apply your racial equity lens to specific opportunities and adaptive challenges you face as an organization. This work supports you in visioning bold steps for moving forward while also developing intentional processes to continue working collectively in the face of ever emerging contexts using strong adaptive strategies.
Documentation + Coaching DOCUMENTATION AND DEBRIEF:Document key themes that emerge from this work, including the strategy screen, emerging resolutions on equity choice points, and strategic brainstorming. Observations and recommendations can be shared with your leadership team through debrief conversations and summary reports. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND COACHING:We offer ongoing support and guidance to you and your change team through implementation, problem solving, and discernment at equity choice points. This support can be offered on-call at an hourly rate or as part of a regular, ongoing process.
